Exhibition view at Out-sight , 2020
As a sorcerer’s tools draw barriers in the four directions, ancient icons and creatures rise to the surface of a white swamp where the axis of time has been swallowed. The Ghosts of those that had drowned with the weight of their own meanings and the shells on museum pedestals that had been forgotten are now returning on the sleek surface which devoured all the gods. During their vacancy, post-industrial icons that are vomiting silicons through crevices of styrofoams, light-weighted urethane foam, material without forms were about to throw a gaudy party. Junghun Kim, with the skill of old potters, has summoned the ancient power that has long been scattered. From the swamp that slips, compresses, ferments; things that have lost their old forms returned in the faces of monsters. In the figures that reclaimed the weight are indecipherable prophecies with the utmost gravity. Text by- Jinho Lim
